Reception: Counting

The aim at the start of the Reception period is to make sure that children can say the number names, ‘one’, ‘two’ and ‘three’. Once this is achieved they can match the verbal number name to quantities. These quantities could be real-life e.g. counters, or images on paper.
We already have a great selection of pages for working with numbers up to three, combining great graphics and clear numbers. It is very important that children get plenty of practice with this. Once children have consolidated their understanding of numbers up to 3 they can extend this for numbers up to 5.
Our latest pages look at numbers up to 5. These resources are just a tiny part of our great selection of material for Reception, which we have divided into Early and Later Reception, to help with finding resources quickly. Have a look now.
