Year 4 and 5: Order Numbers

Progressing from the work in Year 3 on ordering numbers under 1,000, in Year 4 the task is to order numbers under 10,000. Using the same principles with base 10 blocks and place value grids, zeros are important as place holders.
In Year 5 children continue to build on previous knowledge, working with numbers up to 100,000 and later with even larger numbers, up to millions. Place value charts and number lines are still a really good way of helping children understand large numbers. We have just published three new resources, writing numbers in ascending and descending order and ordering from smallest to largest, using place value charts and number lines to help. Well worth looking at during the Autumn term.
