New Reception Resources: Repetitive Patterns
When I was an undergraduate, many years ago, my maths lecturer told me that maths was all about pattern. I have always remembered this, but it took quite a while for me to realise just how important that idea is, helping children make connections, predict and generalise and develop problem-solving skills. In schools children are introduced to pattern in maths from the very earliest times, using both visual and auditory patterns on a practical basis. Patterns can also be pointed out in the real world, bricks, clothes, packaging and may others.
We have just published some tricky pattern work for Reception asking children to copy and continue basic patterns.
