Children will be encouraged to look at squares and rectangles that can be found in the real world. They will also start using terms such as sides and corners to describe the properties of these shapes.
There are many practical activities that can be done, including:
- Use craft sticks to build shapes.
- Print using square or rectangular plastic bricks.
- Compare the sides of boxes.
- Find shapes within shapes eg windows.
- Hunt for shapes in the real world.
