Hundred squares are an invaluable resource throughout the primary years and in Year 5 they are especially useful in exploring hundredths, whether using equivalent fractions or decimals. Each part of the hundred square has a value of one hundredth which can be written as 1/100 or 0.01. It is also easy to see that ten hundredths is equal to one tenth.
