Whilst children are usually introduced to percentages in Year 5, more is done in Year 6 with calculating percentages of amounts. There are some quick techniques that children can use to find simple percentages mentally.

For example:

• finding 10% by dividing by 10
• finding 20% by finding 10% and doubling the answer
• finding 50% by halving
• finding 25% by halving and halving again
